Zein Barakat, DO
Co-Chair
Zein Barakat is an Internal Medicine Resident at Lakeland Regional Health and serves as the Co-Chair of the ACP Florida Council of Residents and Medical Students. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science and a Master's in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology from the University of South Florida, along with a Doctorate Degree in Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University. Before her medical career, Zein was a mathematics teacher, where she discovered her passion for education and mentorship. This experience has fueled her commitment to fostering multidisciplinary collaboration in healthcare. Growing up in a developing country, she is deeply dedicated to advancing healthcare access, promoting volunteerism, and engaging in global health initiatives. In addition to her medical pursuits, Zein is a writer and storyteller, seamlessly blending her love for medicine with her passion for writing and poetry. She is devoted to enhancing mental, physical, and emotional well-being, integrating these principles into her medical practice every day.

I'm Daniela Carralero Somoza, PGY-2 US IMG from Lakeland Regional Health. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico into a Cuban family and did medical school in the Dominican Republic. So I have in me a bit of every Caribbean gem. I am passionate about prevention and leadership, with a strong enthusiasm for growth and guiding others. My IMG journey has given me resilience, which has helped me become a better physician and mentor. I invite all students and residents to join our ACP council, where you can engage in exciting activities, build valuable networks, and contribute to the growth and development of residents and students.
